Locating a Vacation Rental
How do I find a vacation rental property? To locate a rental property, click on the Renter Tab and then click on the state you would like to visit, or select any of the countries in the navigation on the left side of the screen. You can now browse the Listing Summaries for all locations or select a specific location. The Listing Summaries are in alphabetical sequence by location. Listing Summaries within a location are in bedroom number sequence. You can view the details of a property that interest you by clicking on the corresponding Listing Summary.
All rental property details contain the telephone number of the owner/manager. Most advertisements will contain an email address and a fax number that you can use to send or retrieve the rental contract or to contact the owner/manager
Some properties have availability calendars. A calendar icon on the Listing Summary will indicate a calendar exists and it will be retrievable through a calendar icon on the Listing Summary and the Property Detail Page. The calendar will open in a new window. When you close the window you will return to Rentmycastle. It is in the owner/manager’s interest to update the calendar when a property has been booked. However, calendars are not always up to date.
Rental Information
Can I enlarge a Property Photo?Yes, click on the photo you would like to enlarge.
RentMyCastle.com is not responsible for the accuracy of advertisements on this web site. The online service we provide for vacationers is comparable to that offered by a newspaper or magazine. It is the responsibility of the potential renter to determine the validity of the information on each property. Contact the owner/manager and ask for referrals. Obtain and review a Lease Agreement before you send money to the owner/manager
Some property listings contain a guestbook. The guestbook has comments about a property from past renters. A guestbook icon in the Listing Summary will indicate a guestbook exists and it will be retrievable through a guestbook icon in Listing Summary and on the Property Detail Page. The owner/manager will instruct you on how to add to the guestbook when you have completed your stay.
You will find terms related to check-in and checkout times, security deposits, maximum occupancy, pet and smoking permissions or restrictions, cancellation conditions, and maintenance requirements.
Booking and Payment
How do I make a booking?Locate the owner/manager’s phone number and call him/her. Each property owner/manager has his/her own way of conducting business. Generally, when making the rental booking, the owner/manager will ask for arrival and departure dates, and your name and address in order to create a rental agreement. The rental agreement is a legally binding contract and should include: defined arrival and departure dates and times, payment schedules, pet and smoking permissions or restrictions, and terms and conditions related to cancellations and refunds. The owner/manager will mail or email the rental agreement to you.
Rental agreements will require a deposit of up to 50% to confirm the reservation, with full payment received two (2) to four (4) weeks prior to arrival. It is important that all payments be made on time to avoid losing your reservation and/or your booking deposit.
Payment methods vary. Some owners/managers accept credit cards for payment. A credit card icon in the Listing Summary will indicate the owner/manager accepts credit cards.
The cancellation policy defined in your rental agreement should clearly describe penalties for canceling your contract. Cancellations due to weather conditions are not usually permitted unless specified in the rental agreement. Travel insurance can protect your vacation investment if unforeseen circumstances require you to cancel your trip.
Arrivals and Departures
What is a typical arrival procedure? You should be provided with the name of the person who will meet you at the rental, as well as their telephone number so you can contact him/her if anything goes wrong. The person meeting you will usually review the details of the property (what days are garbage days, where the beach badges are located, where you can park your car, etc.) Security deposits are due on arrival and are paid in cash, check or traveler's check.
The owner/manager should check you out of the property, and if there are no damages, he/ she will refund your security deposit in full. Security payment varies from immediately to several weeks. Property cleaning requirements by renter vary. If you are interested in returning, a clean property increases your chances of returning.
